Post Gen presents Be the Revolution, a poster trio by guerrilla artists, Robbie Conal, Shepard Fairey, and Mear One. The poster launch is at the Avalon night club in Hollywood, CA, Thursday, May 27th, 2004. Musical performances by Grammy award winning band, Ozomatli, powerful hip-hop songstress, Medusa and electronic deejay, edIT. Also, local bands, S.T.U.N. and The Vacation will be performing in support to rock the cause. The emcees of the evening will be KPFK’s Jerry Quickley one of the most well regarded performance poets in the United States, Jurassic 5’s favorite emcee Charlie Tuna, and renowned comedian Richard Montoya. Culture Clash, the most prominent Chicano-Latino performance troupe in the country will also be performing. Expect special appearances by other musical guests and well known personalities.
Robbie Conal, Shepard Fairey and Mear One are joining forces for the first time ever to create this trio of posters in time for the presidential election campaign. The images express the artist’s concerns about America’s frightening role in the new world order. Each features a satirical portrait of George W. Bush rendered in each artist’s own inimitable style with accompanying ironic text. Thousands of these posters have been printed for distribution.
In a moment in our history when surveillance has been substituted for civil liberties in the name of the defense of democracy, this event launches a poster tour of major cites. to take back freedom of expression (not to mention democracy) in the United States one community at a time.
Be the Revolution is just the beginning for a national tour. Post Gen artists will be joined by musicians, slam poets, stand-up comedians, and hundreds of volunteers to distribute the posters and information about the presidential campaign. We’ve got to party for our right to fight for freedom of expression! Look for Post Gen at the Democratic National Convention in Boston, the Republican National Convention in New York City and soon in a neighborhood near you!
