Yo Bunnies!
The ARTBURN book tour is burning rubber in Lalaland this coming week.
Starting Wed, Sept 10th, 7pm at 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, (1629 18th Street, just no. of Olympic) the LA Weekly is co-sponsoring a monster party--I'm gonna give a slide talk for about as long as I can stand up (15 minutes?), then Border Grill food, drinks, live music. Bill Smith, art director extraordinaire, will be there, the Weekly bat cave crew, et al. For info call 310 453-3711. It's free!
Then on Sat. Sept 13th at 5pm, I'll be at Skylight Books on Vermont, just no. of Hollywood Blvd, very hip eastside indie bookstore, signing books and chatting (hopefully sitting down). Also free!
Then at 8pm Sat. Sept 13th--same evening--I'll bunnyhop over to a shizzle of a bash: an artshow/book tour kick-off party at OVERTONES gallery/performance space, Boom Boom's new jumpin joint (ok, she shares it with Blondie) at 11306 Venice Blvd, at Sawtelle, 310 915-0346.
Featuring 25 original charcoal drawings for ARTBURN, including laser beaming ACHTUNG BABY! Ah-nold facing off against have-a-very-gray Davis, Tricky Dick Nixon will be waterbugging with Rock Hudson & Doris Day, a brand new giant oil portrait of Bob Marley (the antidote), thanks to David Arquette, and J. Edgar Hoover and his pet pug will be in the house, along with Lyndon Johnson and his beagle, Little Jimmy Carter and his killer rabbit, Babs and Millie, Bubba and Socks and a hot out of the studio charcoal of Condaleezza Rice (be afraid, be very afraid!). Live music galore: Blondie'll throw down some ferocious Seattle-lite funk, blues, slide and jazz guitar licks, H-Bomb'll be on keyboards and surprise musical guests, booze and munchies. All free! And da book, da book (a measly 20 bucks--not an obligatory purchase). All the LA bunnies'll be there (Hugh Heffner is not invited), Bambi, Little Nikkita, Chuckles, Glam-chop, et al--we can't wait to meet you. Even Dan the Man will be down from Frisco to jam with Pami. C'mon out and play, guerrilla-style.!
Peace and angst, robbie
